Anthropic to triple workforce as global AI demand escalates

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company valued at $183 billion and backed by tech giants Alphabet and Amazon, has announced ambitious plans to significantly grow its international operations in response to surging global demand for its AI models.

The company, known for its Claude language models, plans to triple its international workforce and expand its applied AI team fivefold within the year. With 80% of consumer usage for Claude now coming from outside the United States, countries such as South Korea, Australia, and Singapore are leading in per-person adoption of the technology, according to the company.

"Our global demand for Claude is extraordinary - from financial services in London to manufacturing in Tokyo, enterprises are trusting Claude to power their mission-critical operations", said Chris Ciauri, Anthropic's managing director of International.

Expansion Across Key Regions

Anthropic’s global footprint is set to expand with more than 100 new positions being added across offices in Dublin, London, and Zurich. The company is also venturing into Asia with plans to open its first regional office in Tokyo. Additional European locations are also in the pipeline.

The company’s expansion efforts come amid significant growth in demand for Claude, widely regarded as one of the most advanced generative AI models on the market. This demand has propelled Anthropic’s customer base from fewer than 1,000 businesses to over 300,000 within two years.

Financial Milestones and Industry Partnerships

Anthropic’s revenue growth has mirrored its rapid global expansion. The company’s run-rate revenue surged from $1 billion at the start of the year to over $5 billion by August. This momentum has been further boosted by high-profile partnerships, including a deal with Microsoft to integrate Claude into its Copilot assistant, marking a strategic shift for the AI model, which has historically been associated with OpenAI’s chatbot technology.

Leadership Driving Global Growth

Anthropic’s international growth strategy is being spearheaded by Chris Ciauri, who joined the company as managing director of International. His appointment follows the recent hiring of Paul Smith as chief commercial officer. Together, they are leading efforts to scale the company’s global operations and meet increasing demand across diverse industries.

As businesses worldwide increasingly rely on AI for coding, financial services, and manufacturing, Anthropic’s decision to invest in global talent and infrastructure underscores the growing importance of AI in driving enterprise innovation and efficiency.
